Wellsboro, PA PA Grand Canyon and Jane's Island State Park, MD and Tangier Island, VA

Getting the hang of living trailer life, living with bugs, sand and heat and very little space.

We enjoyed our second trip to Wellsboro, PA.A quaint little town with shops and cafes lining the gas lamp lined downtown area. This is the place where they hold a Dickens Christmas each beginning of December. The streets are lined with people in character clothing depicting Charles Dickens story of the Christmas Carol. Never been, but I've heard its absolutely charming. Getting a hotel room is harder then getting a reservation in a National Park this summer season. One day maybe! Anyway, the Grand Canyon is what drew us to this area. We went mid week and hardly anyone was there. In fact we were the only ones in the canyon area most times. Talk about social distancing. Four nights was long enough for this trip.

Janes Island SP and Tangiers Island, VA

Don't ever be afraid to go to a Maryland State Park. They are well kept, clean and the bath houses are spotless. We enjoyed camping under Lop-lolly Pines. A fast growing pine that litters the forest floor with a soft bed of long needles. We camped right near the water. The next day we took a ferry over to Tangier Island. We hopped on the mail boat for a 45 minute ride. The mailboat brings the island people groceries and other items. Lots of Walmart and Amazon boxes. The people of the island all know each other; 500 residents in total. 70 children attend the school on the island, but was was most interesting was the way they talked. If you listened to a few talking among themselves you really couldn't understand anything they said. They have lived on the island since the 1600's and the language is all their own. It's kind of a Elizabethan twang called a Tidewater accent. They say things backwards like if someone said you were handsome, they really mean you're ugly. Anyway, it was so fun walking around the island. So many eastern shore feels.
